Hall's groin strain is not the scare it looked like
Jets running back Breece Hall left an August practice early with a groin injury, but an MRI confirmed the strain is minor. Coach Aaron Glenn says Hall will miss two to three weeks and is expected to be ready for the regular season, per ESPN and multiple Jets beat reporters. Braelon Allen is next up if Hall needs more time, with Isaiah Davis mixing in on passing downs. Do not chase Hall's price down at your table over this. It is missed practice time, not a lost season, and he is worth full value once he is back with the starters.
Love needs no surgery, but Arizona's backfield keeps piling up injuries
Cardinals rookie running back Jeremiyah Love will not need surgery on his high ankle sprain, which is good news, but the team still will not commit to a Week 1 timeline and reports put his odds at roughly 50-50 to play the opener, per CBS Sports and NFL.com. Making it worse, both James Conner (foot) and Trey Benson (knee) are also banged up, which pushes Tyler Allgeier into the lead role if any of the three sit. Keep Love priced as a rookie discount, not a locked-in starter, and grab Allgeier cheap as a real handcuff in this crowded, injured backfield.
Freiermuth is getting a bigger role in Pittsburgh
Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth is a much bigger part of the passing game under new head coach Mike McCarthy's West Coast offense than he was last year, especially over the middle of the field and in the two-minute drill, per The Athletic's Mike DeFabo. Darnell Washington remains a key blocker and got a rich new contract this offseason, but his receiving role looks secondary to Freiermuth's in this scheme. Bid Freiermuth like a real weekly starter at tight end, not a touchdown-only flier, and do not pay up for Washington's catches.
Kittle's Achilles rehab is ahead of schedule
49ers tight end George Kittle has a real chance to play Week 1 after an encouraging evaluation from the surgeon who repaired his torn Achilles, with his rehab described as ahead of schedule, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. He still needs to come off the PUP list by August 30 to be eligible for the opener. This is good news for his price, but the discount should shrink rather than disappear. Pay for a tight end who might sit Week 1 and be a difference-maker after that, not for his old top-of-position price.
