Conner opens the season on IR, and Love's ankle makes it worse

Cardinals running back James Conner will start the regular season on injured reserve, missing at least the first four games while he keeps rehabbing an ankle injury from last September, per Arizona Sports and the team's own site. Rookie Jeremiyah Love, the plan to replace him, is himself about 50/50 to play Week 1 against the Chargers after a high ankle sprain, per FantasyPros and PlayerProfiler. That leaves Tyler Allgeier as the only healthy back in Arizona's room right now. Bid Allgeier up as a real Week 1 starter, and treat Love as a stash rather than a lock until he actually practices in full.

Henderson's ankle puts his Week 1 status in real doubt

Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson has not practiced since August 24 because of an ankle injury and was in street clothes ahead of Sunday's session, putting his availability for the September 9 opener against Seattle in genuine jeopardy, per Yahoo Sports and Heavy.com. Price Henderson as a coin flip for Week 1 rather than a locked-in starter. If he sits, the touches shift to whoever is next up in New England's backfield, which makes that handcuff worth a speculative dollar.

McCaffrey sits out a Melbourne practice

49ers running back Christian McCaffrey did not take part in the portion of Monday's practice open to reporters ahead of Friday's opener against the Rams in Melbourne, though San Francisco was not required to issue an official injury designation because of the international game's practice schedule, per Bleacher Report and NBC Sports Bay Area. This comes just two days after reports had him back to full speed. Do not panic yet, but hold back a little confidence in a full Week 1 workload until an actual practice report shows up.

Egbuka and McMillan trend the right way in Tampa Bay

Buccaneers receivers Emeka Egbuka (toe) and Jalen McMillan (knee) both worked out on the side field again this week, and head coach Todd Bowles said he is hopeful both will be ready for the September 13 opener against the Bengals, an improvement from the murkier picture a few days ago, per SI.com and Pewter Report. Keep both priced as Tampa Bay's top two outside receivers. The direction of the news is what matters here: this is a team trending toward full health, not away from it.
